what to do and where to go
when you need help
It was another sleepless night for Nigel. He couldn’t get his suspicions about Melinda—the new head of the financial services practice—out of his head. Once again, based on the expense report she’d filed it seemed like Melinda was trying to collect twice for a conference she had spoken at in Paris. All of the levels of spending—for the hotel, meals, and transportation—seemed appropriate. But as a speaker at the conference, wouldn’t at least some of her expenses have been picked up by the conference sponsor? The first time she’d done this, Nigel had let it pass. This time, however, instinct told him something wasn’t quite right. Melinda was so well regarded and he personally adored her. Should he privately raise the question with her? Should he let it go? Should he call the EthicsLine? He couldn’t decide what the right course of action was.
> Our Commitment
We will make every attempt to protect the confidentiality of those who raise ethical questions and report possible infringements to company policies, and at all times treat everyone with respect.
> Violations of the Code of
Business Conduct
As employees of Heidrick & Struggles, we all have a responsibility to report violations of the Code of Business Conduct. Raising questions about the behaviors and conduct of your colleagues is a difficult task, yet an important one if we are to live up to our commitments to our clients, shareholders and investors, our various business partners and ourselves. However, intentionally false or misleading reports can cause significant and irreparable damage and thus will be dealt with as serious violations of this Code.
> Confidentiality, Good Faith Reporting and Whistleblower Protection
At Heidrick & Struggles we have great respect for the courage it takes to report a Code of Business Conduct violation. All information will remain completely confidential and no action will be taken against you for raising an ethical issue in good faith, nor will any retaliation against you be tolerated. “Good faith” does not mean that a reported concern must be correct, but it does require that you are truthful when reporting a concern or asking a question. The company will follow up on all inquiries and, if necessary, will take appropriate disciplinary action.
> Reporting Hotline
Another option for reporting a problem anonymously is to call the Heidrick & Struggles EthicsLine at 800 735 0589 or, if calling from outside the United States, at +1 704 731 7242.
